Short Biography

Erik Spettel has over 11 years experience working in the substance use disorder and mental health fields. He has worked at many levels of the treatment industry and designed programs for multiple treatment centers. Erik has 7 years of experience as a drug and alcohol counselor, holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and is currently working on his master’s degree in psychology, specializing in clinical counseling.

Steming from his own experience in treatment, both as someone in recovery and as a professional, Erik became acutely aware of how much healing is left on the table when the process of recovery is confined to an office or classroom. He has been a visionary in his approaches to providing treatment throughout his career, codeveloping adventure therapy programs based around activities ranging from wolf therapy to indoor skydiving. Nature has been a driving force in his own healing, and he has always looked for ways to incorporate nature into his healing work with others. Erik brings his out-of-the-box, holistic approach to the design of the program at Sacred Journey Recovery. His philosophy approaches healing from a body-first perspective that provides tangible experiences that can propel healing and break down perceived limitations

Through his leadership, Sacred Journey Recovery has become a sanctuary for men seeking resilience, camaraderie, and purpose.
